A leave of absence is an extended period of time or time off needed on an intermittent basis where an employee is permitted to be away from work while still maintaining their employment status. An employee may be entitled to a leave of absence for various reasons, including medical condition, surgery, pregnancy, baby bonding, need to care for a family member, or military service.
An employee may or may not be eligible for pay during a leave of absence. It is important for employees to understand options available to them for continuing their pay during their leave.
