Talent Development - Leadership Development for Senior Leaders
UCI Health’s annual training is a collection of mandatory courses based on legal and/or regulatory requirements, UC system requirements, or as determined by UCI Compliance and/or leadership.

All UCI Health and UCI School of Medicine faculty and staff are required to complete annual trainings. Assigned courses vary based on role.

UCI Health and UCI School of Medicine faculty and staff are assigned the annual trainings at the beginning of each fiscal year.

This year, annual training will begin on July 1, 2024

New hire UCI Health and UCI School of Medicine faculty and staff will be assigned all required trainings once on-boarded and when UC Learning Center (UCLC) accounts are active (typically within 48 hours of start date).

Completion of all courses are within 30 days of assignment.

Specific target audiences may be assigned additional mandatory courses several weeks after the initial training assignment.

ANNUAL TRAINING

UCI Health’s 2024 annual training includes the following courses:

  1. 2024 Annual Healthcare Safety Training
    Users are assigned one of the two below-listed tracks:
    • 2024 Annual Training: Healthcare
      This version is for those who have been identified as either working with patients or having exposure to biological agents. This includes positions in non-patient-facing labs and research staff.
      • Workplace Wellness
      • Safe Injections, Safe Handling and Disposal of Biohazardous Materials, and Exposure Reporting
      • Standard and Isolation/Transmission-Based Precautions
      • Bloodborne Pathogens
      • Aerosol Transmitted Diseases (ATDs)
      • Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs)
      • Emergency Management
      • Fire/Life Safety
      • General Safety
      • Public Safety
      • Hazardous Materials and Waste
      • Radiation Safety
      • Equipment/Utility System Failures
      • Language Services
    • 2024 Annual Training: Administration
      This version is for those who do not work with patients, and includes the following modules:
      • Workplace Wellness
      • Emergency Management
      • Fire/Life Safety
      • General Safety

      • Hazardous Materials and Waste
      • Radiation Safety
      • Language Services
  2. 2024 UCI Health Compliance Program
    Our compliance program applies to all of us - faculty, staff, students, volunteers, and other workforce members who are a part of the UCI Health community. This training will cover the elements of the Compliance Program; the UCI Health Code of Conduct and how it applies to you; fraud, waste, and abuse; and how to report compliance concerns.
  3. 2024 UCI Health Privacy & Security Training: Federal & State Healthcare Privacy Laws Users are assigned one of the two below listed courses:

    • 2024 Privacy & Security Training: Federal & State Healthcare Privacy Laws

      This training is for new employees or periodically assigned as needed to all employees. It is created based on federal and state law, UCI Health policies and procedures, and provides guidance on preventing the types of privacy and security incidents UCI Health experienced in the prior year.
    • 2024 Privacy & Security Refresher Training (HIPAA)

      This training is for those who have already completed the full HIPAA module. It is updated annually to reflect changes in federal and/or state law, changes to our policies and procedures, and to provide guidance on preventing the types of incidents UCI experienced in the prior year.
  4. 2024 Healthcare Vendor Relations & Acceptance of Personal Gifts
    The UC Healthcare Vendor Policy was adopted system-wide in July 2008. This policy applies to all healthcare individuals who are defined as, “Members of the UC Community who work, train, or/are students at healthcare locations or in health professional schools.”; and to all University of California Health Sciences programs and campuses. At UCI, this includes UCI Health as well as programs in Pharmaceutical Science, Population Health & Disease Prevention in Public Health, and School of Nursing.
  5. 2024 Model of Care: Provider Training
    Providers who provide care to patients under a Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plan must complete this training annually.

SUPPLEMENTAL TRAINING

The following supplemental trainings are assigned to staff in clinical roles and in specified departments and roles. They are assigned several weeks after the above compliance trainings have been assigned.

  • Annual Training: Supplemental - Antimicrobial Stewardship Education

Antimicrobial Stewardship Education is designed to discuss the importance of antimicrobial stewardship and the different antimicrobial stewardship strategies.

  • Annual Training: Supplemental - Device and Surgery Associated Infections

Device and Surgery Associated Infections is designed to provide employees with information about infectious diseases and ways to prevent transmission of diseases in the healthcare settings and the community.

  • Annual Training: Supplemental - Tuberculosis - Determining Risk of TB Transmission

Tuberculosis - Determining Risk of TB Transmission is designed to inform you on the risks and transmission of Tuberculosis.

  • Annual Training: Supplemental - Ventilator Associated Events (VAE)

The Ventilator Associated Events (VAE) course is designed to provide healthcare staff with information about the broad range of conditions or complications that occur in mechanically-ventilated adult patients, infection transmission, prevention measures, and patient education to minimize the potential for infection.
